Earlier this year, reports suggested that OpenAI's next major LLM, GPT-5, was in development and aimed to surpass the capabilities of its predecessor, GPT-4. However, the latest official statement from OpenAI clarifies that the training of GPT-5 has not yet begun and is not currently in development.
