Reddit CEO Demands Payment for AI Data Scraping

Reddit's CEO, Steve Huffman, is urging companies like Microsoft to pay for using the site's data to train their AI.

Huffman claims that without formal agreements, Reddit can't control how its data is used or displayed. He singled out Microsoft, Anthropic, and Perplexity for not negotiating and making it hard to block their access.

Huffman alleges that Microsoft uses Reddit's data to train its AI and summarizes its content in Bing results without Reddit's consent. He also revealed that Reddit's data is sold to other search engines via the Bing API.

Huffman's goal is to adopt a model similar to OpenAI's SearchGPT, which licenses Reddit results.
