FEATURED STORY 🔥
One in Five GP Doctors Using AI Tools in Clinical Practice
According to a recent survey published in BMJ Health and Care Informatics, 20% of general practitioners (GPs) are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT in their clinical practice.
The study, which involved 1,006 GPs, found that these AI tools are being used for various tasks. Nearly a third of AI-using GPs employ them to generate post-appointment documentation, while 28% use them to suggest alternative diagnoses. Additionally, 25% of respondents use AI to recommend treatment options for patients.
The researchers noted that GPs may find value in these tools, particularly for administrative tasks and supporting clinical reasoning. However, concerns were raised about potential risks to patient privacy and confidentiality, as it's unclear how the companies behind these AI tools use the information they gather.
The study also highlighted the need for clear regulations on AI use in clinical settings. Dr. Ellie Mein from the Medical Defence Union warned about potential issues of inaccuracy and patient confidentiality associated with AI use in healthcare.
