ChatGPT is the latest in a series of AIs which the firm refers to as GPTs, an acronym which stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer. To develop the system, an early version was fine-tuned through conversations with human trainers.

Stephen Thaler, co-founder of Scentient.ai, has filed patent applications for two inventions in which a neural network is named the sole inventor.` These applications have been rejected in almost every jurisdiction, mostly on the legal grounds that an inventor should be a human. But none of the legal cases so far have tested Thaler's claim that the computer is indeed the sole inventor.
Google brings machine learning to online spreadsheets with Simple ML for Sheets (5 minute read)Today Google announced a beta release of the Simple ML for Sheets add-on. Google Sheets has an extensible architecture that enables users to benefit from add-ons that extend the default functionality available in the application. “Everything runs completely on the user browser,” Luiz Gustavo Martins, Google AI developer advocate, told VentureBeat. “Your data doesn’t leave Google Sheets and models are saved to your Google Drive so you can use them again later.”

Rapid advancements in generative AI systems have increased their popularity over recent months. Users can generate detailed images using just a text prompt.
Bumble open sourced its AI that detects unsolicited nudes (4 minute read)As part of its larger commitment to combat “cyberflashing,” the dating app Bumble is open sourcing its AI tool that detects unsolicited lewd images. First debuted in 2019, Private Detector (let’s take a moment to let that name sink in) blurs out nudes that are sent through the Bumble app, giving the user on the receiving end the choice of whether to open the image.
Record funding for the UK's AI sector in Q2 2022 (1 minute read)VC investment in UK AI companies hit a record in Q2 2022, with £3.2 billion having been invested so far - With Tech Nation noting that investment is on track to “at least equal” last year (although the article does point out that this assessment was made prior to the recent market turbulence in the UK).
