AI Tool Promises Breakthrough in Solving Cold Cases

Avon and Somerset Police are testing an AI tool that could revolutionize cold case investigations. The Soze tool, developed in Australia, can analyze various types of evidence simultaneously, including video footage, financial records, and social media.

It can process 81 years' worth of detective work in just 30 hours.

The technology has already reviewed evidence from 27 complex cases in a fraction of the time it would take humans. Gavin Stephens, chair of the National Police Chiefs' Council, believes this tool could help solve some of the UK's oldest unsolved cases. The AI system can quickly assess large amounts of material that might seem impossible for human investigators to tackle.

While the technology shows promise, police chiefs emphasize that it won't replace human officers. Instead, it will assist them in making better decisions.
